ISL Clubs Preview: Jamshedpur FC

By Shivraj Talekar
14 November 2021

Jamshedpur FC, backed by TATA, known as the ‘Red Miners’, one of the competitive clubs, but still they haven't managed to put results despite of having a huge financial backing and the supplies from TATA FOOTBALL ACADEMY. From the very first year they have been a midtable team. But this time around they could change their fortunes and they have some solid reasons to do so. In this preview we are going to look at Jamshedpur FC’s strengths , weaknesses and how could they put up a challenge for the SILVERWARE.

COACH AND PREFERRED FORMATION

Owen Coyle could be regarded as the most high profile manager in the Indian Super League. He comes with the Premier League experience with BURNLEY, also has a glorious feet in his very first season of his arrival at CHENNAYIN FC. One of the most positive coaches , he has played an important role in signing of major impact players. Tactically, he very much prefers using a 4-4-2 to attain symmetry all around the pitch. Last year he wasn’t able to play a 4-4-2 for a long time as he lacked players who could well suit his tactics but this year he has signed players accordingly in the order to play them in a 4-4-2. Also a 4-2-3-1 can be a secondary option. Along with 3-5-2 as they have very good players in the Central defence.

STRENGTHS

Jamshedpur is a team where they don’t chop and change much. They have put some trust in their Indian core with some fabulous additions. They have signed big names like Ishan Pandita, Jordan murray ,Len doungel ,Komal Thatal & also Greg Stewart to strengthen their squad. They are a team which manage to get a lot of star power on their side.

They have Rehenesh TP, who was one of the top Goalkeepers last season, to save them before their post. Pawan will be the second choice, most probably.

On paper Jamshedpur have one of the best attacks with a superb balance of Indian and foreign players. They brought Jordan Murray from Kerala Blasters who was just behind Valskis in Goalscorers list. Considering his age, if he continues his form, he can do more. Indian players Komal Thatal and Ishan Pandita will be great threat for opponents. They will be assisted by Mobashir on the left and Len Doungel on the right wing.

They have got a good midfield to coordinate between the attack and defence. They have brought in Pranoy Halder from ATK Mohun Bagan on a loan deal to help their defence along with Jitendra. Alex Lima will play as a controller of the game. Greg Stewart will play as an attacking midfielder, who can also play as a forward thereby helping the attackers too.

In defence they have really solid and experience players along with some really interesting prospects in Indian football. They have added Anas and Eli Sabia to their defence. They also have Peter Hartley who performed decent last year. Ricki and Boris will play for them on the left and right flanks.

WEAKNESS

Attack & Central defence seem to be flawless but still some departments need to show up as they don’t seem to be promising on paper.
The fullback department is one of the underproved department, Boris Singh, Renthei , Sandip Mandi ,Karan Amin have a huge mountain to climb as they have to coordinate well in the 4-4-2 system of Owen Coyle. Also in midfield they have quality starters but the bench seems to be a huge concern. Most probably, they will lose the service of their important player Farukh Choudhary (there is some chances of him returning during the second half of ISL)

This match gave a mixed feeling to Indian fans. It was India's first match in WAC after 19 years. The Indians were high on confidence that they will succeed in getting three points. But with Iran's good defending, they managed to restrict India to a draw. Also their goalkeeper Koodaei performed very well. Now let’s take a deep look into yesterday's match. INDIA'S CHANCES In the initial minutes of the game Iranians made some quick moments and even hit the Indian crossbar. But within 20 minutes Indians were able to settle and control the game. India dominated the game thereafter, and as a result Indian ladies got many chances but they lacked the final touch. Indumati got the first chance in the 24th minute but her half volley flew over the bar. After that Manisha got couple of c

Lot's of Ups and Downs for the Bengaluru FC in the First Half of the League. Here is our review on the Blues performance so far.

By Saurabh 13 January 2022 Bengaluru FC, repeating itself from the previous season. The performance of the team has shown no improvement having lost 4 matches, drawn 4 and won 2. They are currently placed 9th in the points table. We all know that Bengaluru FC from past had always performed well, and because of their performance in 2019-20 season, they had the chance to play in AFC Cup. After major changes, Bengaluru prepared for the league early. All the foreign players left except Cleiton Silva.  They started well with winning two matches to make it to the group stages from the preliminary round. But they lacked coordination which was exploited by the opponents. START OF THE LEAGUE They started on high note as they won 4-2 against Northeast United FC. It was a great start but after that they lost 4 matches and dropped points in rest of the matches due to poor attacking and missed opportunities. CHHETRI AND BFC Whenever Chhetri's name is heard, i

No More a Mid-Table Team! Here is our half-season review on Jamshedpur FC.

By Jeremiah Prince 21 January 2022 Since its inception in 2017, Jamshedpur FC is always a mid-table team. Though they had some good players they weren't able to reach the top 4. But this season, things changed. With good additions and with a good tactician in helm, they are looking very good so far and are now a serious contender for the ISL. Here is an article based on their performance so far.  With 4 Wins, 4 Draws and 2 Loses from 10 matches, Jamshedpur is second placed in league after 10 matches. START OF LEAGUE They retained three of their foreigners, Valskis, Lima and Hartley while leaving out the rest four. They brought in Murray and Eli Sabia from the league and experienced Greg Stewart from Rangers. They also brought some experienced Indians and young talents to bolster their squad.  They started their league with a 1-1 draw against Kolkata Giants, East Bengal. A magnificent victory over last season play-off team, FC Goa which boosted them for their upcoming fi
