ISL Clubs Preview: Odisha FC

By Manav Choudhary
09 November 2021

Odisha FC as Delhi Dynamos was one of the successful in ISL in its initial years. But once they were rebranded as Odisha FC they are sweating to enter into the top 4. Under Kiko Ramirez, this season Odisha FC will be looking forward to find their spot in the top 4 for the first time. With a combination of experienced foreigners and young Indians After a disappointing end of the last season where Odisha FC finished bottom of the table in ISL, it's a beginning of the new season with new hope and new bunch of foriegn players and new
coach Kiko Ramirez. Odisha FC will be looking to comeback this season as they have begun
their pre-season training in Goa. Will Kalinga Warriors change history? Here we look at preview of Odisha FC.

COACH AND PREFERRED FORMATION

Kiko like to play a 4-2-3-1 formation aiming to control the proceding and put pressure
on oppositon with a fluid and an attacking brand of football. He also prefers to use 4-3-3
formation and likes to build up from the back. Even though as a manager still he has not won
any silverware but he will definitely be determined to take his team to a high leavel.

STRENGTHS

Odisha FC have one of the best squad in ISL this season with a mix of experienced Foreigners and young Indians. In goalkeepeing department, if Arshdeep continues what he did the last season, opposition players will sweat to beat him and score. They also have Kamaljit who can also create wonders. As we saw, Kiko likes to do build up from the back, so defence department will have a key role in his tactics. From the signings also we can make clear of that. With experienced Foreigners and young Indians they will be unpredictable. On the flanks, they have experienced players with multiple youngsters who will fight along with them. Last year main drawback of Odisha FC was they lacked creativity and a creative player, (like Hugo Boumous) in the Midfield department, which caused them many matches. But this year with creative and experienced players like Liridon, Javi, Vinit along with young guns like Paul and Issac their Midfield will be very busy helping in attacking as well as defence department which will make them a deadly team. Coming to the attack, Jonathas will take up the job which Diago Mauricio did last year. One of their another problem last season was, they didn't had a great supporting player in the attack like Ortiz. Though Manuel Onwu was there, he didn't performed much well. This year, with the addition of Aridai Cabrera in that void place Odisha is expecting great. If well used by Kiko potential Indian players like Jerry, Isak and Daniel will definitely a great headache for the opposition defence.

WEAKNESS

The biggest problem which they
faced last season was conceding a lot of goals and the reason was they lacked an experienced Indian CB. This year also, they are lacking an experienced Indian CB to help Hector and Victor. It is very crucial how their wingers perform. Also, due to the bad results of last season youngsters maybe mentally broken. It is also very crucial that how Kiko's strategies will help these youths to get out from that.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT

Vinit Rai (DM)
Jonathas De Jesus (CF)
Paul Ramfangzauva (DM)
Liridon Kransniqi (AM)

FOREIGN CONTINGENT

Players like Javi Hernandez and
Victor Mongil have experience of playing in ISL and have been champions with ATK .They know
Indian football much more than all other players. Their experience in ISL will give an advantage for sure. As mentioned earlier Jonathas will take up the position of Diego Mauricio. Last year, Diego Mauricio was alone in the front and he lacked a support in the attack and Aridai is brought to fill that position. If tha combo succeed in that, they will be one of the deadliest in the league. In defense, Hector and Victor partnership will be crucial for the team. They are the main players in Kiko's strategies. If they come upto their level, Odisha can do what Hyderabad did last year.

PROBABLE FINISH

If things goes as planned, Odisha can create wonders with these squad. They can also find a spot in the top 4 for the first time as Odisha FC. It is what the fans are expecting too. They can also be the Black Horses of the league.

Lot's of Ups and Downs for the Bengaluru FC in the First Half of the League. Here is our review on the Blues performance so far.

By Saurabh 13 January 2022 Bengaluru FC, repeating itself from the previous season. The performance of the team has shown no improvement having lost 4 matches, drawn 4 and won 2. They are currently placed 9th in the points table. We all know that Bengaluru FC from past had always performed well, and because of their performance in 2019-20 season, they had the chance to play in AFC Cup. After major changes, Bengaluru prepared for the league early. All the foreign players left except Cleiton Silva.  They started well with winning two matches to make it to the group stages from the preliminary round. But they lacked coordination which was exploited by the opponents. START OF THE LEAGUE They started on high note as they won 4-2 against Northeast United FC. It was a great start but after that they lost 4 matches and dropped points in rest of the matches due to poor attacking and missed opportunities. CHHETRI AND BFC Whenever Chhetri's name is heard, i

No More a Mid-Table Team! Here is our half-season review on Jamshedpur FC.

By Jeremiah Prince 21 January 2022 Since its inception in 2017, Jamshedpur FC is always a mid-table team. Though they had some good players they weren't able to reach the top 4. But this season, things changed. With good additions and with a good tactician in helm, they are looking very good so far and are now a serious contender for the ISL. Here is an article based on their performance so far.  With 4 Wins, 4 Draws and 2 Loses from 10 matches, Jamshedpur is second placed in league after 10 matches. START OF LEAGUE They retained three of their foreigners, Valskis, Lima and Hartley while leaving out the rest four. They brought in Murray and Eli Sabia from the league and experienced Greg Stewart from Rangers. They also brought some experienced Indians and young talents to bolster their squad.  They started their league with a 1-1 draw against Kolkata Giants, East Bengal. A magnificent victory over last season play-off team, FC Goa which boosted them for their upcoming fi
