ISL Clubs Preview: Chennaiyin FC

By Muralidharan
12 November 2021

Chennaiyin FC has a forgottable season after they finished 8th position in Points Table of ISL 2020-21 season and they are looking make a strong comeback in this season. Chennaiyin FC signed Montenegrin Head Coach Bozidar Bandovic for upcoming 2021-22 season. He needs to prove himself in India after a fine Seasons in Thailand. Chennaiyin FC retained most of the Indian Core but retained only one foreigner Rafael Crivellaro and signed new players like Slavko Damjanovic, Ariel Borysiuk, Lukasz Gikiewicz, Vladmir Koman and Asian Signing Mirlan Murzaev.

COACH AND PREFERRED FORMATION

If we make a look into Bozidar Bandovic's profile as a coach, we can say he is a success. Also, his experience in Asia will also be an advantage for Chennaiyin. He was able to make many achievements for the teams he coached. Coming to his formation, he highly prefers 3-5-2, 3-4-2-1, 3-4-3, and 4-4-2 formations.

STRENGTH

Chennaiyin FC maintained their Indian Core and signed some quality, potential players which will be an advantage for Chennaiyin FC. Notable GK Debjit Majumdar, quality Striker Jobby Justin, Winger Ninthoi and CB Deepak Devrani are the big names in Indian signings. In Foreign department, they only retained their star and one of the best attacking midfielder in ISL, Rafael Crivellaro, who plays a crucial role in team as he is well settled with ISL and Indian Conditions. Rest five players are new to India.

For guarding their post, they have experienced and sincere Vishal Kaith, one of the players who performed well for them last season. They also have Debjit who is good backup in that section.

In defence, they have Serbian Slavko Damjanovic. Last year I-League star Deepak Devrani or Salam Ranjan will partner him. They also have some prospects in the back. On the left flank, they have experienced Jerry Lalrinzula and Narayan and on right, they have Edwin Vanspaul and Reagan Singh. These players are unpredictable and can create headache for the opponents.

Coming to Midfield, they have some good players on paper. They have Ariel Borysiuk along with Germanpreet and Dhanpal Ganesh to help their defence. Their experienced Central Midfielder Anirudh Thapa will play a crucial role in the team. Along with him, their young prospects Melroy Assisi and Subhdip Mahji will find time to make surprises this year. Their Midfield department is quite surprising with the presence of these youths. They also have a good Midfielders who can help their attacking department. Crivellaro is the big name. This year he have a good partner for him as in the form of Vladimir Koman who have experience playing in Serie A along with Sampdoria.

In attack, their team is one of the deadliest in the league. They have potential players like Rahim Ali and Jobby Justin who can scare the opposition defence with their unexpected moves. Presence of tall Łukasz Gikiewicz can turn out be an advantage as he is known for converting set pieces and high balls into goals. In the left wing, they have speedy Lallianzuala Chhangte and on right they have Kyrgyzstan International, Mirlan Murzaev to increase the power of their attack. Their new signing Ninthoi can also turn out to be dangerous.

WEAKNESS

One of the serious concern of Chennaiyin will be their defence as they signed only one Foreign CB Slavko Damjanovic. If he is injured or out of form then they will be forced to play with two Indian CB's. But they lack an experienced Indian CB. So, it is clear that their performance depends on how Deepak Devrani and Salam Ranjan adapt to ISL. The impact of Eli Sabia' s and Tangri's exit will also be greater.

They also lack an experienced Central Midfielder. We have to wait and see how their Indian trio performs in the centre.

Though their attack is pretty well, we will have to wait and see how their CF Łukasz Gikiewicz perform. He haven't created much impact in his past clubs.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT

Jobby Justin
Mirlan Murzaev
Ninthoi
Deepak Devrani

PROBABLE FINISH

Their players may not be convincing when compared to other teams. They may be lacking big names keeping away some two or three but they can create wonders. Though they may not be serious title contenders, their coach can make this squad a wonderful one. Their coach can take them to the top 4 with this squad, considering his previous stats. Minimum expectations are midtable finish.

This match gave a mixed feeling to Indian fans. It was India's first match in WAC after 19 years. The Indians were high on confidence that they will succeed in getting three points. But with Iran's good defending, they managed to restrict India to a draw. Also their goalkeeper Koodaei performed very well. Now let’s take a deep look into yesterday's match. INDIA'S CHANCES In the initial minutes of the game Iranians made some quick moments and even hit the Indian crossbar. But within 20 minutes Indians were able to settle and control the game. India dominated the game thereafter, and as a result Indian ladies got many chances but they lacked the final touch. Lot's of Ups and Downs for the Bengaluru FC in the First Half of the League. Here is our review on the Blues performance so far.

By Saurabh 13 January 2022 Bengaluru FC, repeating itself from the previous season. The performance of the team has shown no improvement having lost 4 matches, drawn 4 and won 2. They are currently placed 9th in the points table. We all know that Bengaluru FC from past had always performed well, and because of their performance in 2019-20 season, they had the chance to play in AFC Cup. After major changes, Bengaluru prepared for the league early. All the foreign players left except Cleiton Silva.  They started well with winning two matches to make it to the group stages from the preliminary round. But they lacked coordination which was exploited by the opponents. START OF THE LEAGUE They started on high note as they won 4-2 against Northeast United FC. It was a great start but after that they lost 4 matches and dropped points in rest of the matches due to poor attacking and missed opportunities. CHHETRI AND BFC Whenever Chhetri's name is heard, i

No More a Mid-Table Team! Here is our half-season review on Jamshedpur FC.

By Jeremiah Prince 21 January 2022 Since its inception in 2017, Jamshedpur FC is always a mid-table team. Though they had some good players they weren't able to reach the top 4. But this season, things changed. With good additions and with a good tactician in helm, they are looking very good so far and are now a serious contender for the ISL. Here is an article based on their performance so far.  With 4 Wins, 4 Draws and 2 Loses from 10 matches, Jamshedpur is second placed in league after 10 matches. START OF LEAGUE They retained three of their foreigners, Valskis, Lima and Hartley while leaving out the rest four. They brought in Murray and Eli Sabia from the league and experienced Greg Stewart from Rangers. They also brought some experienced Indians and young talents to bolster their squad.  They started their league with a 1-1 draw against Kolkata Giants, East Bengal. A magnificent victory over last season play-off team, FC Goa which boosted them for their upcoming fi
